I Debate Racial Profiling in Terrorism Cases Tonight on MSNBC.

There is an ongoing fight in this question about racial profiling.  After 9/11, this fight has expended to the question of terrorism.  With this most recent attack, people are again questioning whether we should apply racial profiling to this issue.

I appear tonight on MSNBC with Ed Schultz to debate this issue.  Frankly, racial profiling doesn't work.  Statistically, it is less effective and probably most importantly, it alienates an entire community whom we will will paint with the broad brush as terrorists.  This would be a disaster.

This should be fun.  Hope you can watch.

Dear Mr. Rice,

Racial profiling is indeed unacceptable. As I commented on my blog, once security includes additional variables aside from race, then it is no longer racial profiling. Any Muslim/Middle Eastern man who is travelling alone, pays cash for their ticket and has no luggage should be given a detailed search. When race/ethnicity is not the only variable, it can no longer be considered racial profiling. Problem solved.
